From my camera roll: A florist's diary
Some weddings whisper rather than shout, and Sarah's beautiful early May wedding at The West Mill was exactly that.
Inspired by the delicate fern motif woven into the fabric of her dress, Sarah chose flowers that felt soft, natural and quietly elegant. Rather than focusing on large statement blooms, she was drawn to movement, texture and the different shades of green that appear in an English spring garden.
The result was a collection that felt effortlessly romantic and perfectly at home within the industrial character of The West Mill.
The ceremony space was framed with low floor arrangements positioned along the aisle. Designed with an abundance of ferns and layered foliage, they were softened with delicate white flowers that appeared to dance amongst the greenery. Sweet peas, campanula, scabious, waxflower, lisianthus and veronica added a gentle lightness, while allium heads created subtle architectural interest and movement.
It was proof that an all-white palette doesn't have to feel formal or traditional. Instead, these flowers felt fresh, contemporary and full of personality.
One of my favourite things about this wedding was how thoughtfully everything was planned. The floor arrangements weren't simply used for the ceremony and forgotten afterwards. Once the vows had been exchanged, they were repurposed onto the guest tables for the wedding breakfast, allowing everyone to enjoy them throughout the celebrations.
The pair of larger urn arrangements were also given a second life. Initially positioned to create impact within the ceremony setting, they were later moved to frame the top table, bringing height and softness to the industrial backdrop of exposed brick and timber that makes The West Mill so distinctive.
It's always satisfying when flowers work hard across the day. Not only is it a practical choice, but it allows couples to make the most of the designs they've invested in and ensures each space feels beautifully considered.
Looking back through these photographs, I love the contrast between the crisp white blooms and the layers of textured foliage. The ferns softened every arrangement, echoing the tiny details hidden within Sarah's dress and creating a floral story that felt entirely personal to her.
And that's often where the most memorable wedding flowers begin—not with trends, but with one small detail that means something to the couple.
For Sarah, it was the quiet elegance of a fern leaf.
